Pros
There don’t seem to be any reports of dogs having indigestion, other GI problems, or allergies with this food. No recall history. The ingredients are stellar.
The First Ten Ingredients
Chicken, Chicken Meal, Ground Brown Rice, Oatmeal, Lamb Meal, Salmon Meal, Chicken Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols and Ascorbyl Palmitate), Rice Bran, Citrus Fiber, Flaxseed.
These are different from what you often see. The main protein ingredients are chicken and chicken meal, and there are lamb and salmon in the list as well. Ground brown rice and oatmeal are in the top five, not brewer’s rice.
There are no chemical preservatives or other dangerous unpronounceable ingredients. There are cranberries and blueberries and apples and chamomile.
Some people will criticize Precise because, although their meat proteins appear to be good quality and they are named sources – including some less common proteins that can be good for dogs with food allergies – the protein percentages appear to be low in comparison to other foods.
But when the protein is higher quality (such as chicken rather than a plant) it contributes more. Here is the guaranteed analysis:

Conclusion
This is really good dog food for large breeds. They make formulations for other sizes of dogs as well.
It’s inconvenient that you can’t buy it in the grocery store, and it’s expensive, but it’s worth it if you can afford it. You don’t need to use as much of it because of the lack of useless fillers, which is great for people with big dogs.
Even people who are not swayed by terms like “holistic” and “natural” (which really are weasel words) are amazed by the quality of their dogs’ coats and the amount of energy their dogs have when they switch them to this food.
